Don't look back in anger

The year looked to end on a downer but then I forgot that one should never underestimate the power of the last minute.

Well, just as last year I shall list the things that were good.

Film: Sideways. Yes Sin City was good, Star Wars finally redeemed itself, Batman was finally done justice (although the film is majorly overrated IMO) but Sideways was just straight up the best film of the year. Great script, great performances and wine. The film stays with you and easily stands up to repeated viewing.

Gig: T in the Park. A cheat? Perhaps, but at the start of the year I would have expected Nine Inch Nails to fill the slot since my eyes practically melted in anticipation but it really was only good, not blow-away and since The Prodigy closing out my weekend like a napalm explosion is one of my enduring memories of the year, I have to give the nod here.

Band: Goldfrapp. A storming new album which has dominated my playlists since its release, plus a kicking gig at the Carling. Enough Said.

Book: Hmmm, toughie but, since I read it in one sitting and endured nasty sun-burn as a result (I really didn't think that much time had passed), I will recommend The Taking by Dean Koontz. I won't spoil the plot (although some people will want to look smart by saying it was obvious AFTER reading it) so check it out.

TV: Well its really been crap all year overall apart from the usual suspects (CSI, The Shield) nothing new really stepped up and grabbed my attention maybe Don't Watch That, Watch This on BBC 4, or Qi also on the Beeb.

Game: Gotta be The Warriors just for sheer pleasure of play. It isn't holding up to well to repeat gaming but the first time through was a gem.

Comic: Doom Patrol. Screw everyone, I enjoyed it.

Advert: The "Harry Hastings" ad, so shit that I just love it plus nobody can deny the phone number is memorable due to that awful jingle.
