Can you DIG IT?
Kanye West - Golddigger
This week I began my six week kitchen stint and I must say I much prefer kitchen to bar and that's not just because of slightly better working hours and no customer interaction. I do like the job don't get me wrong, but part of me thinks there's a better option out there for me somewhere so I guess I'll just keep looking, maybe I'll investigate the practicalities of going into business for myself.
When not working these past few days, my life has been consumed by one thing: The Warriors. Those who know me are already aware of my obsession with all things Warriors (Film, CD, Book)but the latest addition is special indeed. Basically the game flat out rules. So far the game hasn't been a retread of the film but rather a prequel of sorts, fleshing out the gang and its origins and its clear that those involved in the games production have a healthy repect for the source material too. But really its all about the fights and they are possibly the most brutal brawls I've ever encountered in a video game. Dozens of gangers battling in a destructable environment with broken bottles, pipes, blades and a host of other weapons. The stand alone fight mode is just as good with plenty of options to choose from (1v1, 9v9, survival to name a few) and seriously who couldn't love going toe to toe with the Furies on the baseball diamond?
Also saw The Curse of the Were-Rabbit at the weekend. Not on a par with Wallace and Gromit's previous outings, possibly due to the extended running time but nevertheless hugely entertaining. The film lacked the whimsical quality that so endeared me in the previous stories but, in a cinema full of sprogs, I was clearly laughing the most, much to the embarassment of my girlfriend. Whereas I would compare the other works to the Ealing comedies such as The Man in the White Suit, I feel that this latest outing has more of its roots in the Carry On films, which is in no way a bad thing. There were some fairly (for a kids film anyway) smutty jokes but they were carried off with such an innocence that they get away with it just fine. Parody and in-jokes a plenty as well (not just King Kong either) made this one of the most enjoyable films I've seen in what feels like an age. High recommendation.
And before I go, I might as well chime in on the Goldfrapp gig I went to as well. While I preferred the show at T in the Park 2004 (possibly due to more alcohol intake and general better atmosphere) this was still a splendid gig. The stage show was as bizarre as I expected (bikini clad dancing girls with wolf/silver horse masks) and the set included all the songs I love, can't really ask for much more! One problem having typed this I know remeber how much I enjoyed the support act too, but can't remember their name... bugger.
Until next time, I'M MOCKINGBIRD! Not Lex 1, 2, 6, Alpha or Infinte!
